The Seme Border Command of Nigeria Customs Service and the Badagry Division of Nigeria Police on say they have put in place measures to check rampant attacks from smugglers.
The two federal agencies told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry that the measures were necessary following the two days of gun battle with smugglers at Gbaji-Yeke customs check point.
Mr Dankoli Mohammed, the DPO in Badagry Police Division and the Seme Border Customs Spokesman, Ernest Olottah, told NAN that the smugglers attacked the check point on June 25 and June 26.
They said that the smugglers attempted to shoot their way through the check point along Seme-Badagry-Lagos expressway, but they were resisted by men of the customs and the police.
Mohammed said that it took the efforts of a joint security task force, including soldiers from the 242 Battalion, Ibereko, to repel the attacks.
Olottah said that the smugglers might have attempted to go through Idiroko route in Ogun to Lagos, but found the security there difficult to beat.
He said that the situation was now under control and there was no casualty on the side of the task force.
Efforts to get Alhaji Sadiq Sahabi, the Area Comptroller of Customs in Seme, for his comments were not successful.
