Police rescue three girls from international prostitution ring

Three girls – Happy John (20), Happy Jackson (20) and Angela Boniface (23) -have been rescued by men of the Osun State Police Command from a Cote d’Ivoire-based Nigerian prostitution ring.

The Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Kalafite Adeyemi, who paraded four members of the prostitution ring in Osogbo, said the three girls were on the verge of being transported to the French-speaking African country for prostitution when they were rescued.

According to Adeyemi, the four members of the syndicate, Blessing Ehichioya, Ofin Blessing, Joy Blessing and Bose Ozoya – came to Nigeria from Cote d’Ivoire in April.

The police commissioner said that the suspects and the victims were apprehended on May 24, 2012, by the command’s detectives.

She said, “They came to Nigeria during the last Easter break and recruited the victims with the aim of setting them into prostitution in Cote d’Ivoire.

“The victims are to be paying 100 units of Ivoirian currency for accommodation monthly and 30 units for their upkeep to the four ladies.”

She said that investigations had revealed that the victims did not tell their parents about their plans to travel to Cote d’Ivoire.

She urged parents to give their children proper upbringing and ensure that they did not keep bad company.

One of the victims, Jackson, said she did not know that she was being taken to Cote d’Ivoire for prostitution.

Jackson, who hails from Edo State, said she wrote her Secondary School Certificate Examination last year while John, who also hails from the same state, said she wrote hers this year.

Boniface said her sister, who lives in Cote d’Ivoire, sent one of the four ladies to bring her to the French-speaking country.
