A statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and free flow of traffic in the area.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Babatunde Edu, issued the order during a meeting jointly organised by the agency and the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and other Special Offences for the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria at Alausa, Ikeja.
“Commercial bus operators are fond of flouting traffic rules and regulations. They always drive in direction prohibited by the law and have turned every nook and cranny of Ikorodu into parks rather than using the dedicated parks allocated to them. This directive became necessary in order to curb the excesses of the commercial drivers and street urchins who have narrowed the road to suit their undesirable acts, thereby causing heavy traffic and posing a serious security threat to the people,” he said.
He further warned that in addition to paying fines, violators would also be charged to court in order to ensure strict compliance and serve as deterrent to others.
