Sad end of innocent school boy •Crushed by reckless Mile 1 bus driver

TRAGEDY STRUCK at No. 103, Ikwerre Road, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, yesterday when a hit-and-run driver crushed a 12-year-old secondary school student to death in front of his parents' house.

Three other victims, including a PHCN staff, are on danger list after they were hit by the same reckless driver at Emenike Junction.

The accident infuriated a lot of people who do one business or the other around the area.

A vendor with Newspread News Agency, a member of Port Harcourt NDAN, who was at the scene, told our reporter that the incident occurred at about 5:30pm when the driver of a commercial bus marked Rivers XB 755 AHD, bashed a PHCN SUV while making a U-turn at the busy junction.

Chased by the driver of the PHCN car, leading to a struggle that made him lose control. Our source said the bus hit two persons at the junction, during the struggle for control of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the driver was saved by the quick intervention of policemen from the Mile 1 station, who quickly dashed to the scene as an angry mob descended on him.

The driver was immediately arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment, along with the other victims of the accident.

The remains of the dead victim were initially taken to the station and later to a morgue.
