Doyin Okupe’s Appointment as SSA on Public Affairs raises Questions over Reuben Abati’s Role

A recent appointment in the office of the Presidency has caused a widespread debate over the roles of the people managing the President’s media and publicity affairs.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday approved the appointment of former presidential spokesman, Dr. Doyin Okupe, as his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs.

Doyin Okupe                                                                   Reuben Abati

The medical doctor was former spokesman to President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He had also contested for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in Ogun State but lost to Gbenga Daniel.

Meanwhile, Dr. Reuben Abati already serves as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Jonathan.

With the appointment of a Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, the speculation is that Reuben Abati is being sidelined.

President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan have indeed come under negative media attacks more often than not and the speculation is that Doyin Okupe was appointed to salvage their image.
