NYSC Cancels Yobe And Borno State Postings

Relief came the way of thousands of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) call-ups today in Abuja as the corps management cancelled deployments to the troubled States of Borno and Yobe.
A statement signed by the Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier-General NT OKORE-AFFIA, said those posted to these two states will now have their orientation programmes in Nasarawa and Benue States respectively.
Corps members originally posted to Yobe will proceed to Nasarawa State, while those scheduled to have their orientation in Borno will go to Benue State.
And while their colleagues in other States are already undergoing their orientation, the corps members posted to the two troubled States will now have theirs between Thursday, 26 July and Thursday, 16th August, 2012.
NYSC had insisted on Tuesday that it would go ahead with the scheduled posting despite the outcry of Nigerians, especially southerners, whose children are billed to be posted to the volatile North where the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram have become deadly.
The statement by Mr. Okorie-Affa also advised all 2012 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members deployed to Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Kano and Kaduna States who have collected their call-up letters but are yet to report in camp to report immediately at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja for redeployment.
It would be recalled that many corps members were killed last year in the North, especially in Bauchi and Kaduna States, when angry youths from the region were protesting the conduct of the 2011 elections.
Below is the full text of Brigadier-General Okorie-Affa.

This is to inform all prospective corps members deployed to Yobe and Borno States for the 2012 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course to note the following:
Yobe State prospective corps members will now hold their orientation course at Nsasarawa State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Keffi LGA, and not as stated on their call-up letters.
Borno State prospective corps members will undertake their orientation programme at the Benue State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Wanume, Tarka LGA, and not as stated on their call-up letters
Date: Thursday 26 July –Thursday, 16th August, 2012 as earlier published
In addition, all 2012 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members deployed to Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Kano and Kaduna States who have collected their call-up letters but are yet to repport in camp should immediately report at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja for redeployment.
