70-yr-old woman killed in Kebbi rainstorm


Torrential rain in Kebbi State yesterday claimed the life of a 70 year old woman, Hajiya Aishatu Azumi, and rendered hundreds of people homeless.

Hundreds of animals were also reported to have died and foodstuffs destroyed.

The main road linking Birnin Kebbi Federal Medical Centre and Dukku Army Barracks was also cut off hampering accessibility to the barracks, the center and Pilgrims Welfare Agency office all in Birnin Kebbi.

Among the areas noted to have been worst hit include Go-Slow road, Rafin Atiku, Makerar Gandu, ’Yar’yara, Takalau Bayan Tasha, Bayan Kara, Old Prison, Federal Medical Centre, Gesse Quarters, Aliero Quarters and Badariya.

Governor Dakin Gari’s Chief Press Secretary Alhaji Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari said the state deputy governor Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu had visited the affected areas and also condoled with the family of late Hajiya Aishatu Azumi over the incident.

The deputy governor directed Kebbi State Urban Development Authority to immediately embark on clearing of all drainages and water channels for easy passage of water while calling on the general public to avoid dumping of refuse in drainages.
