Traditional rulers, others crushed to death on Minna-Bida highway

The district and village heads of Bisanti Community in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State were on Monday crushed to death along the Minna-Kataregi-Bida Highway.

An eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria that the accident occurred when a driver of a pickup van from the Bida end lost control of his vehicle and rammed on the victims.

The witness explained that the vehicle swerved to the other lane, crushing the traditional rulers who were on a motorcycle.

According to the witness, the two traditional rulers died on the spot before medical assistance could be given to them.

The witness said that the corpses of the rulers and other victims had been taken to the Bida General Hospital.

A source at the hospital gave the name of the District Head as Jibrin Baban Kaka and the Village Head as Baba Muhammad.

Sources in the village said the late traditional rulers were returning home after a third day (Fidau) prayers of a dead friend in a nearby village, when the accident occurred.

The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, Mr. Pius Edobor, confirmed the accident, saying that the police had begun investigation into the incident.
