Fresh bloodbath averted in Plateau

Another bloody attack was, yesterday, averted in Kwakwi village of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, where similar attacks claimed the lives of two prominent lawmakers and hundreds of other residents in the council last month.

The would-be assailants, eyewitnesses claimed, were armed Fulani herdsmen, who were dressed in black attires.

The village’s vigilante group, with the help of Police, gave them a hot chase and one of the suspected raiders was apprehended.

State Police Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Ayeni, told newsmen that a suspect was arrested in collaboration with vigilante group at 2am, with AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition, while attempting to raid the village.

Ayeni said: “A gang of criminals invaded Kwakwi village in Riyom council and the youths mobilised and prevented them from carrying out their devilish act.

“A phone call was made to the Riyom Divisional Police and a patrol team with the youths swung into action and were able to capture the suspect with his AK-47 riffle.”

Ayeni confirmed that no one was killed in the incident and appealed to citizens to remain alert and give credible information to the Police to help fight crime in the state.
