Persecution will not deter us - Deeper Life

Despite the killing of 19 of its member in Okenne, Kogi State, the Deeper Life Bible Church says that it will not be deterred by the enemies of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Speaking at the combined Sunday Worship Service of some districts in Lagos held at the International Bible Training Centre, the church secretary, Pastor Jerry Asemota, made this known.

"The church is grieving. The leadership of the church is touched and is grieving too. But what has happened will not deter us," Asemota said.

"A great door of evangelism is opened before us but the adversaries are many. The enemy is doing everything to discourage our pastor but we will pray harder that he will not be discouraged."

The pastor said that "what comes to mind at a time like this was reprisal", but added that the church would not do that.

He said the church "will take up the weapons of Truth which is the word of God and the weapons of prayer that will bring us victory".

He recalled that the Okene massacre was not the first mass murder of members of the church, noting that six of its members in Mubi, Borno, were killed by gunmen in 2011.

Asemota led the church in a series of prayers for the families of the victims of the Okene massacre; the victims still in the hospitals; the Church of Jesus Christ; and the General Superintendent of the Church, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi.
