Police averts bomb blast in Sokoto

The Sokoto state Police Command has averted what would have been another major disaster in the ancient caliphate city, by conducting a controlled detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), discreetly dropped in the city.

A statement by the Deputy Force Public Relations officer, CSP Frank Mba, claimed that at about 11.00am, an unknown person riding an unregistered motor cycle, discretely dropped a black polythene bag at the secretariat of one of Nigeria’s leading political parties.

Mr. Mba further explained that a report about the presence of the strange object was promptly relayed to the police authority in the state by a patriotic citizen.

After which the police authority in the state immediately deployed a combined team of police officers from the bomb disposal unit to the area.

He added that “the quick response of the police operatives saved the day, as the polythene bag was located, scientifically examined and found to be containing high caliber Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).”

The statement further stated that personnel of the police bomb disposal unit thereafter carried out a controlled detonation of the explosives without any casualty.
