Lagos gives commercial bus drivers 90 days to re-register vehicles

The Lagos State Government on Monday directed commercial transport operators in the state to re-register their vehicles within 90 days.

The directive was given by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, in Lagos during a meeting with officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Association in Nigeria, Motor Cycle Operators Association of Lagos State and All Nigerian Auto Bike Commercial Owners and Workers Association.
Opeifa said this would enable the state government to develop a database of vehicles, owners, drivers and conductors.

He said they would be issued with hackney permits for easy identification of their vehicles.
Responding, Lagos State Chairman of NURTW, Mr. Agbede Tajudeen, urged the state government to help transport unions to recover some parks that had been converted to other uses so that drivers could stay off the roads.
